Conversations with Gianna 2

My dad used to call Danae his pretty rosebud.

My mom started calling Gianna the same a few months ago. She would say “Good morning, pretty rosebud!” Gianna barely replies. One evening, Gianna poured out my mom’s medicines onto the floor. My mom got angry and scolded her. She cried, I came home, that was that (she apologized late the next day). The next morning, Gianna went into her room….

Wowa: (being stern — she hadn’t apologized yet) Who are you?

Gianna: Pretty Rosebud.

Wowa: (to me, when she was telling me about it that day) Ano na lang gagawin ko? Marunong sumagot.

Hahahah. Many times she does not respond to “pretty rosebud.”. But this time, she used it to her advantage.

These days, when my mom asks her…..

Wowa: You’re my pretty?

Gianna: Gianna. Pretty Gianna.

She told me that she’s just Gianna, not Rosebud. Haha.

One time in my in-laws’ house….

Gianna: Ssssh…he’s sleeping. (pertaining to King’s brother-in-law, while moving quietly)

Kuya Larry: (Shifts position)

Gianna: (gets scared and scurries away) He’s moving, he’s moving!

This was just relayed to me, but it cracked me up so much. I could imagine her face, haha.

Gianna loves my friend’s dogs, friendly Shih Tzus named Sky and OB.

At a party in their house, she was beside their food bowls, encouraging the dogs to eat and drink. She left that area when I told her to. But she continually played with them. At one point, while Mommy was busy chatting with the ladies, she asked the Yayas (also her favorite, maybe because they accommodated her so much hahaha) for some cereal.

Yaya: You want this cereal? The chocolate one? (because she chose the cheerios)

Gianna: No. (I was surprised by her answer when my friend was telling me this story, because she likes chocolate cereal.) THAT’S DOG FOOD.

Hahahaha. The chocolate cereal did resemble dog food.

One time in Kids Church….

Gianna: Mommy, I want that.

Me: Which one, love?

Gianna: I want a skirt just like that, mommy.

She was pointing at a tutu worn by another little girl. She impressed me with her complete sentence. She’s into “princess dresses” these days, even just in the house.

One time, while we drove away from the house….

Gianna: Is that Raerae’s house?

Me: No.

Gianna: Whose is it?

Me: Somebody else’s.

Gianna: How bout our house?

Me: That’s not our house. Remember? What’s the color of our house?

Gianna: Orange!

Me: No, it’s brown and white.

Gianna: I want our house a pink color.

Me: No love. Our house will never be pink.

Gianna: I can’t?

Me: Yeah, you can’t.

Gianna: Awww.

She loves pink, haha.

Gianna can be demanding.

Gianna: I want to watch your laptop, mommy.

Me: You have to ask me nicely.

Gianna: Get your laptop, mommy.

Me: What’s the magic word?

Gianna: Laptop.

She would say the subject of her sentence every time I asked for the magic word — whether it was milk, the tablet, water. Thank God she now knows that PLEASE is the magic word.

They like to watch this Filipina girl singing on a talent show.

Me: (singing due to LSS) This girl is on fiyerrr….

Gianna: No, it’s FAYA mommy.

That’s how the girl sings it on the video.

Some of her funny words…..

“Marco Folo.”

“Des-pa-si-to lalalala Falito.” (we stopped listening to the song when we found out what the song meant, promise!)

Baby suits. “Mommy, can I wear my baby suits?”

“It’s taking forever, mom.”

When I tell her to sit down, she says “I am,” even when she’s sitting where she’s not supposed to.

“Ba-toh, ba-toh tink! Papell, ba-toh, tink!”

While we were having lunch last week…

Gianna was playing beside me, and she was kind of laughing and looking at the table behind us. She said to me, “Love love pipol, mommy.”

Awww, she has said that a few other times. She may have a heart for people. ❤

Gianna is indeed a delight to everyone around her. We don’t want her to grow up, but she is turning 3 tomorrow! Happy birthday, bingky boo. We love you! ❤

Conversations with Gianna 1

We have this electric racquet that kills mosquitoes. One time….

Me: Sit down. I’m killing mosquitoes.

Gianna: Ok mommy. Don’t kill me mommy.

Still on killing mosquitoes…

Me: dzzzztt (joking, pretending to get her with the racquet)

Gianna: I’m a mosquito, mommy?

Gianna likes to join in on conversations.

Danae and Noelle: Bla bla bla…..Mishka (a friend of theirs) did bla bla bla

Gianna: (pops up on their window upon hearing Mishka)……Mooska, Mickey Mouse!

Disney Jr’s Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, for those who don’t get it.

Gianna was trying to get on the couch, pushing Danae.

Danae: Say excuse meeee.

Gianna: Excuse me.

Danae: Without pushiiiing.

Gianna: Without pushing.

Out of the blue…

Gianna: I’m a little kid, mommy.

Me: Yes you’re a little kid.

Gianna: Because… I’m a pipol.

Also out of the blue….

Gianna: Are you big?

Me: Yeah I’m big. Are you small?

Gianna: Yeah. I’m the bebe. I’m the little one.

At a restaurant….

Me: Gianna, come down. You might hit your chin on the thing.

Gianna: This one? The glass, mommy?

Yes, the thing was indeed the glass partition.

On wonder woman….

Gianna: It’s wonder wumen mommy. That’s not for me.

We didn’t let her or Noelle watch it. We told her it’s not for kids.

While walking in sm, she was holding King, walking ahead of me….

King: (talking to me) Call your mom.

Gianna: (looking back to me) Moooooom.

Hahahah. ❤

Gianna likes Doc McStuffins, and pretends to be her.

Gianna: What’s wong, mommy? (with her kit in hand)

Me: Hmmm?

Gianna: Is your tummy penful?

Other times, she says “I need Madiktuffins ektoscopt.”

One time, we were lined up waiting for the elevator. People were passing or lining up as well, and she said, “It’s pipols, mommy. Plenty pipols.”

Sometimes whenshe begs me for something, part of her act is to say “pleeyus?” instead of the usual please.

Gianna surprises and makes us all laugh when she blurts out words we don’t expect.

“Yaaaas!” with such excitement.

“I’m so bored.” with a sigh and shoulders slumping.

“What’s the deal, man?”

If you ask her who her mommy is, she says “Tita Phoebe.”

Gianna and food

As we were ordering at Silantro on King’s birthday months ago, we asked Gianna what she wanted. She said HOPIA. And then later on she asked “where’s my hopia?” No, there’s no hopia in Silantro haha. She used to call it hoopa, then ho–pya, then hoopia, before hopia.

Also some months ago, I asked her if she wanted noodles. I call every kind of pasta/noodle, noodles, to simplify it. She said to me “That’s not noodles mommy. That’s miswa.” It was.

When she drinks something like “hansi” (calamansi) juice or sinigang, she comments that it’s “super sour.”

Last week, she saw crabs served on the dining table.

Gianna: mommy, it’s a crab!

Me: yeah you want?

Gianna: yeah! Because I’m……shineeeh! (Moana)

She likes to “steal” wowa’s boiled eggs. She says that she wants to “cwack a egg.”

A month or so ago, we were driving home from church probably.

I heard Gianna struggling with something. Until she stopped.

Gianna: Hold. (giving her milk to a friend of theirs)

And then she slept. She was apparently struggling to put her on the door handle and couldn’t. She fell asleep right away.

One time, I didn’t notice that she took a packet of Ovaltine from the pantry. I just found her face full of chocolate powder, and noticed traces of her handiwork. She cut the packet open by herself in the kitchen and spilled practically half the contents on the counter.

She wanted to come with me today, but I needed to leave her because of a church activity. She kept following me, trying to convince me to take her.

Me: I’ll just bring you something, ok? You want donut?

Gianna: yes. Strawberry, mommy. See u later mommy!

Just like that.

When she had her bout with diarrhea…

Me: see gianna? You can’t eat chocolate first. Your tummy and butt get owie.

Gianna: I can’t eat chocolate?

Me: yeah.

Gianna: “Habbout” ice cream?

Haha kain pa din. 🙂

Funny Fridays, My Kids

Gianna’s words 1

Gianna is nearly 3 and she, like most little girls, is a talker. She’s also at that stage of creating her own monologues, talking to her dolls and laughing by herself. Just now, she came to me and told me that her barbie is hurt. She made our breakfast tray table into a slide for herself, and she let her toys slide too. Last night, she was pretending to be a cat and used the hamper as her cage. Noelle has something to do with her pretend play, as her sister would often initiate that game.

She surprises us a lot with her words. The day after she and I went home from family camp, she said to me “yesternight, we left ate noelle?” She must have figured if we say yesterday, why not yesternight if it happened last night? Nobody uses that word in our house. Nobody taught her that.

Her sentences make sense, though not always grammatically correct. This morning, she saw a picture, and she commented, “He have a scooter just like mine.”

Just now, she saw a screw on the pile of coins she’s playing with and said, “sharp” and gave it to me. And then a few seconds later said, “Found another one.”

Before she even turned 2, I believe, she already recognized “Cacia,” especially coming from Petron. She surprised us one time, coming from Commerce Center, when she said “Cacia! Cacia!” Now she says, “We’re going to Acacia?” or “I want to go to Acacia” even when it’s not a Sunday. (Victory Alabang has 11am and 3pm services in Acacia Hotel.)

Months ago, when I would tell her that a video on the internet is not working, she would tell me that “it’s loading, mommy.” When she couldn’t figure something out, she’d say, “How do dis?” One time, I asked her how do dis while pointing to my phone, she said “password.” Another time she answered, “I don’t know how. Aks daddy.” When she couldn’t make the volume work, she said to me “Mommy, it’s not louding.”

One time after a bath, I told her that she’s super wet. She asked me, “I’m Super Wet? Like a super hero?”

A few weeks ago, while taking a shower, she proudly told me that she killed an ant/insect. “I kill it!” And then she took her toy again and said “I kill it some more, mommy.”

I showed her the cotton on my arm after I had my blood drawn for some tests last week. I told her I got an owi, but that I was okay. She noticed later on that it was gone, and she asked me “You removed it? You okay?”

One time, she came into my room and told me “She’s mad at me.” I kept asking who was mad at her. Apparently my mom (gently) scolded her for not obeying. Another time, she came in and said “Mommy, she bite my skirt.” I asked who bit her skirt, and she said “the door.”

She says “I dunno” like an adult. I’ve heard her say “eeder (either).” She says “o see????” and “jussss kidding!” and “Whas going on?” She says “ekyoos me” too. She used to say “aproom,” but now just gives a thumbs up when she approves of something.

When she turned two, a friend of mine joked and taught her to say that she’s 5. Since then, it’s been hard to convince her that she’s 2! I would ask her how old she is, and she’d say “five.” One time, I told her that no, she’s 2. She said “No, I’m 5.” Thank God now she puts up 3 fingers when asked how old she is. I’m training her to say that she’s 3.

One time, she looked into one of Danae’s bags and said, “there’s no stuff, mommy.” She also knows the word empty, of course.

Some time last month probably, I was looking for one of their friends. I was thinking out loud. She answered me with “There. Beside Danae.” And she was right.

One time, she was about to spill over the container of paper clips. She was looking at me, smiling, and asked, “It’s okay?” I said no it’s not, and she replied with “It IS.” She has since refuted other things I’ve said with her “It IS.”

When she wants to end a story, she closes the book and says “Be end (the end).”

Before she used to answer “mmmm, maybe” or “mmmm, nope.” She also likes to say, quite nasally “mmm-hmmm” as her yes. One time I asked her if I could bite her butt, she said no. Noelle asked if she could bite mine, and Gianna willingly gave up my butt, saying “shore!”

But she loves mommy. When she sees me getting dressed, she always says “Can I go?” “I want to go oso.” When I can’t bring her, I tell her “I’ll be back.” Sometimes, she’s okay with it and says “You’ll be back, mommy?” even before I say it. Other times, she cries. One time, I hadn’t even left but just got something from the bathroom, she said “Are you back, mommy?” She’s always happy to see me back.

She volunteers to pray now, and she usually says, “Lord, thank you for myself….” and continues to thank the Lord for each of us. 🙂

Children are a gift from the Lord;
they are a reward from him. Psalm 127:3

Of farts and other gross things

When somebody in our family farts near Gianna, she is sure to point it out. “You farted, (member of the family).” Not to make fun. She just says it as if to inform the person. 🙂

When she smells something bad, she immediately sniffs her hand, fidgets, and says “smells bad.” Sometimes she tries to locate the smell. Sometimes she actually leaves. She used to even wave her hand near her face. 🙂

One time, somebody released a really nasty one, and she commented, “eeeeew, smells bad (member of the family). Go to the bafroom.” 🙂

When somebody burps, she says “bless you!” 🙂

She has no problem picking up and eating food that she dropped on the floor! At times we catch her and stop her in time. Other times, we are too late. 🙂

For some reason, she calls cheese burgers “cheese booger.” So now we call her boogers “cheese booger.” 🙂

She has these tiny (fits in my hand) toy chairs for small dolls, which she calls toilets. She has always associated them and similar chairs to the toilet. Nobody taught her that. A few months ago, one family member was sitting on the toilet, and she put the said chair below the family member and said “you’re pooping.” 🙂

She also now knows to say gross when appropriate, like when one family member farted today, and when she accidentally saw a kiss on tv. 🙂

Gianna stories

Gianna likes to join in on conversations she’s not part of. Sometimes, she calls my attention repeatedly so that she can tell me something totally off topic. Or deliver a monologue I can barely understand. Other times, she suddenly gives an answer. “No, it’s not!” “Me!” “What, daddy? What?” “Yeah!”

One of her favorite things to do is to get my playful reaction, “heeeey.” She tells me to say it when she suddenly switches the shower to faucet, or when she quickly sits on my chair when I get up to get something in the kitchen. She smiles or laughs each time. She also sometimes directs us to do certain things, saying “Can you wake up me?” “Can you find me?” “Can you where’s my baby?” “Can you close eyes and surprise?” “Can you dance?”

She says the cutest things.

“Can I play my toys?” “I need to take a bath because I need to play my toys!”

When Danae just had her operation, Gianna said “I have an owi too!” So cute how she knows how to use too and oso (also) appropriately.

When she’s excited, she says “I’m so essayted!” Or “osom! (awesome)” or “yesss! (but with lips pursed and mouth rounded)”

She likes to use the lazy boy as a slide — no not below, where we rest our legs, but from the top, where we lean. One time she slid down, looked at me, and said ” Dugen? (do it again)” I said okay, and she said her “yesss” with fists in the air like a strong pose.

One time maybe more than a month ago, she came to me kinda angry. She didn’t give me an answer when I asked why. She was just quiet, lying down beside me. After maybe 2 minutes, she said, “I’m not angry anymore, mommy. I’m happy!” Soooo cute.

Sometimes, she suddenly comes to my room and says things like “I’m going to eat, k?” or “I’ll be back, mommy, k?” or “I’m watching in wowa’s room, k?” So cute the way she says “K?’ with that adorable face.

So funny also when she comes to me, pouting, to tell on her sisters. Sometimes they are legitimate concerns, like “Mommy, she she she grab from me.” Other times, “Mommy, she she she kissed my cheek!”

I call Gianna Noelle’s disciple because everything Noelle does, she wants to do. It’s cute because they really have a unique bond as sisters (I call Noelle mommy bird and Gianna baby bird as well heehee). One time, Noelle volunteered to take a bath with Gianna.

Noelle: This must be your most fun bath, Gianna.

Me: You think so? Why?

Noelle: Because of me. I’m the fun.

So true. They have so much fun together, sometimes too much fun, haha. 🙂

Gianna’s questions and answers

One time Gianna was trying to open something that she was having a hard time with. I forget what it was. I wasn’t really looking at her. She came to me and said, “How do dis?”

When she’s looking for someone or something, her sentence goes like, “Where’s Noelle’s es?” “Where’s mommy es?” “Where’s ducky es?”

When she’s asking permission for electronics, she says “Blablet? (Tablet)” or “Phone olee? (phone only)” or “Taptop? (Laptop)”

Sometimes, when we say No to her, she says “aw-wh.”

When she wants to tell me about something that happened or that something was done to her, she goes “Mommy o, mommy o!”

When she likes something, she says “I love et!”

When she finds something or someone funny, she says “Funny.” That’s usually daddy or ate Noelle.

When she wants to keep us from doing something or going somewhere, she says “No, not allowed!”

One time…

Gianna: Where’s wowa? Me: Makati.

Gianna: Manang mul-let? (Manang Milette) Me: With wowa.

Gianna: Donae? (Danae) Me: School.

Me: Where’s daddy? Gianna: School.

Me: No, where’s daddy? Gianna: SM. Haha was trying to get her to say office. 🙂

Say what?

One time a week or so ago in the car….

Noelle: Mom, what does Sereni mean?

Serenitea (local milk tea store). I’m not sure if I was able to explain to her what serenity means because she amused me so much. 🙂

Last week, while I was getting her dressed…

Gianna: Mickey cwack-ouse!

Me: Mickey what?! (Was thinking Mickey has a crack house????) Oh Mickey Mouse Clubhouse?

Gianna: Yes!

Mickey and crack? They don’t mix!

Last month, after their musical theater class…

Noelle: Mom, we’re going to get minus in our grade.

Danae: (was talking at the same moment) Teacher’s going to give us the music for our play.

She seriously thought Minus one was a minus in her grade. 🙂

Sometimes Gianna taps her own butt or a doll’s or one of ours and says BOOTEH!

Something she learned from her sisters. Haha. 🙂
